Art of the Cocktail featuring Rachel Platten

RACHEL PLATTEN

Beautiful, but not brazen. Passionate, but never preachy. Populist, but definitely not prosaic. New York City singer-songwriter, pianist and beatboxer Rachel Platten is by no means your average headliner-in-the-making. Her Rock Ridge Music debut, Be Here, is a bewitching collection of 10 wise-beyond-their-years piano-driven pop songs that echo elements of Alanis Morissette, Carole King, Tori Amos and Regina Spektor, while retaining a singular sense of self that is rarely found in such a young performer.

with Air Dubai.

AIR DUBAI

Easier experienced than described, Air Dubai is a bustling seven-piece hailing from the burgeoning music scene of Denver, CO. With disparate musical backgrounds and indiscriminate influences, the boys of Air Dubai have truly created something new: pure, melodic cacophony.

When vocalists Julian Thomas and Jon Shockness conceived the product of their musical aspirations in the summer of 2008, the short-lived duo underwent a rejuvenation in the spring of 2009 with instrumentalists Nick Spreigl, Lawrence Grivich, Michael Ray, Taylor Tait and Wesley Watkins rounding out the bandís current line-up. The band as it exists will go on to collect several titles (including Westword Magazineís Best Hip-Hop Band, and Clear Channel KTCL 93.3ís Hometown for the Holidays winner) and universal praise for their eclectic brand of spicy alternative music: always well done, but never over-sauced.
